Get Joy Moments: Just for fun
Recently, with my personal story running in the background, get joy moments have been precious, needed, and absolutely just for fun.
I love recognizing moments that bring me joy!
In counseling or coaching, we would call these get joy moments “glimmers” or happy, joyful, life giving things and recognize them as an opposite to a “trigger” that might bring pain, confusion, anxiety or extra stress.
The glimmers of life, or get joy moments as I personally call them, are incredibly important and valuable to see, enjoy, and capture throughout your days.
Laughter with a friend, coffee and a book, sleeping in, a beautiful sunrise, a puppy’s antics, or a peaceful lake sparks happy chemicals and glimmers of joy in your soul.
As Proverbs 17:22 says, “A cheerful heart is good medicine…” and Proverbs 31:25 reminds us that, “She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future.”
These, among so many other reminders throughout scripture to sing, shout, dance, and praise with joy, should inspire us to look for get joy moments and celebrate the glimmers of our days.

We’ve been decorating our apartment with happy pictures, favorite sayings, verses {Abby said we have a “pinterest” house}, colors I love, the girls’ art, twinkle lights, and furniture that is here just because I like it. I mismatched dishes, created spaces for puzzles, and even Brisket has his own basket of toys and chair to sit in.
I even found a little picture with a quote by William Shakespeare to hang by the door. It says, “With mirth and laughter, let old wrinkles come.”
Bring on the get joy moments… a reminder that sends us out into the world.
The girls and I regularly eat in front of the TV, watching shows we love, and talking about the day while watching Brisket has his evening zoomies or snuggles, depending on his mood.

In fact, yesterday, I celebrated with a client who had worked through the capacity series to come out of burnout, worked on her grief tower, figured out why this was so hard, and started practicing all the new boundary work, capacity work, and healthy team work on the field. She didn’t need to buy a new bundle! Total get joy moment for her and for me.
This quiet work can take time but the work is so worth it. Every time.
